South East Juniors Celebrates Womans Round

South East Juniors celebrated Woman’s Round through highlighting the increasing number of females involved in South East Juniors umpiring by appointing female field, boundary and goal umpires across all 6 games played at Sweeney Reserve on Sunday.

Umpiring Manager, Darren Goldspink said “I believe this is the first time in Australian Football where all games at one venue have been umpired entirely by females. The number of female umpires continues to grow, which is great for the SEJ”.

South East Juniors General Manager Shaun Connell said” The League’s continues to provide strong female participation pathways not only through umpiring but through the Youth Girls and the U12’s girls program”

In addition South East Juniors and AFL Victoria have appointed a Ellie Blackburn as the Female Programs Ambassador who will be running the U12 Girls Program and School Clinics in the Region.

The growth of female participation in the SEJ is a reflection of what is happening nationally with over 350 female players across playing in SEJ competitions and over 40 female umpires making up around 12% of the total umpire numbers.
